Dickinson County

Dickinson County is home to the "Iowa Great Lakes" and was the destination for this leg of our tour. These lakes (particularly West Okoboji) have long been been a vacation destination for the region.

The mini roller coaster at Arnold's Park

Buena Vista County

We would have liked to have stayed and have a picnic in Storm Lake but a major storm was just moving in (how predictable)

For a "modern" courthouse I rather liked this one. It seemed like the kind of place the rebel alliance would hang out.

Cherokee County

Laura's family originally settled in Cherokee. It's kind of an odd name choice given that there were never any Cherokee around here other than all the 1/16th Cherokee white people.

Captain America created this memorial

Clay County

Clay County seat of Spencer is most famous for being the home of world famous library cat Dewey Readmore. It's also a very nice town. As we travel the state you can really tell the difference between these towns that take pride in their communities. Spencer is top notch.

I really appreciate those courthouses that keep the open belltowers open.

O'Brien County

Did you know there is only one Primghar in the world? It's true and it's in O'Brien county. There were also only two gas stations which were across the street from either other. One advertising "Hambuger hot dish" and the other a tater-tot casserole. It was like a Iowa food throwdown.

Emmet County

Estherville is a very pretty town. While the courthouse isn't much to look at the library more than makes up for it.

Pocahontas County

Another cool movie theatre.
