Plymouth County
Le Mars is the Ice Cream capitol of the world. Unfortunatly the kids are all lactose intollerant so we didn't eat any.
Sioux County
Sioux County is home to Orange City, the OTHER Dutch town in Iowa. Man they sure do love being dutch.
Osceola County
Osceola County contains the highest elevation in the state, although you wouldn't guess it by looking at it. It contains the southern tip of the Coteau des Prairies. The seat is Sibley, a cute town that seems to be trying.

Clayton County
Clayton county is part of the driftless area of Iowa. Very pretty, we have vacationed here several times and will again.

Appanoose County
When we visited Appanoose County, and the city of Centerville, it was getting all ready for Ragbrai to come to town. It has a surprisingly robust town square. We stayed at the Honey Creek State Resort at lake Rathbun, Audrey ended up slipping and slicing her chin open and had to get it glued shut at the Centerville hospital (great staff, we were in and out pretty quick)

Decatur County
Decatur County is one of the few examples in the state where the largest city (Lamoni) isn't the country seat. That distinction goes to Leon. This area of the state was an important part of the Mormon trail, and today is home to a large Amish population which has been moving from the "overpopulated" Cedar Rapids area.

Winneshiek County
Winneshiek is home to Decorah Iowa, which is a bit of a tourist destination. It's absolutely beautiful with waterfalls, a historic downtown, thriving businesses and a nice college (Luther).

Feyette County
Feyette Country is named for Gilbert du Motier, Marquis de Lafayette. Yes, THAT Lafayette! Needless to say we listened to a lot of Hamilton while driving through one of the most beautiful parts of Iowa

Benton County
The County Courthouse in Vinton is one my favorites. It's like a mini-Iowa State Capitol. Plus it has one of the best preserved open bell towers I've seen,
Buchanan County
The Buchanan County seat is Independence Iowa

| The downtown looks pretty rough. But so many great things here. The city planner in me wants a crack at it. |
